Lynne Pass - Support Teacher, Derbyshire County Council

<<Back

At the In The Picture Picture this! evening reception in London on 15 April 2008, Lynne was awarded an In The Picture Champions Award - you can read below how she has "championed" the project.

Since Lynne became aware of the In The Picture project she has promoted it to colleagues and schools in Derbyshire where she works as a support teacher for SSSEN [Support Service for Special Educational Needs].

She supported illustrator Di Lorriman in her work around The Big Draw 2006 for which In The Picture won a Drawing Inspiration Award and is using her influence as the mother of an international basketball player to try to involve sporting champions in Di's Big Draw Activities in 2007.

Lynne has promoted the work of In The Picture in newsletters and training sessions around the county.

Lynne Pass and the Bracken Test

In this photograph Lynne is showing the Bracken Basic Concept Scales published by the American Psychology Corporation - when she used this part of the test on a four year old boy with cerebral palsy and he saw the child depicted in an illustrated wheelchair he immediately smiled and said "that's me!". It wasn't the correct answer for the test but in many ways it was much more important!

The SSSEN team in Derbyshire now have a heightened awareness of the 10 Guiding Principles of In The Picture and are more aware of images and the messages they can send. The team is in contact with publishers for talks and exhibitions and are raising their voices to say what they need to promote the inclusion of disabled children.

Lynne has and continues to put disabled children in the picture!
