Sue Woodgate - Head of Service, Support Service SEN, Derbyshire

<<Back

At the In The Picture Picture this! evening reception in London on 15 April 2008, Sue was awarded an In The Picture Champions Award - you can read below how she has "championed" the project.

Sue has been a key promoter of the aims and principles of In The Picture for over a year.

As a lead officer for SEN in Derbyshire Sue has led the Disability Equality Training in the county and has ensured that In The Picture, its aims and principles have formed part of her training presentation.

The training package has been delivered to over 320 schools in Derbyshire at all phases and including special schools. It has also been delivered as part of the governor training programme. Delegates have been given literature and information on In The Picture and the web link.

She has used images from the In The Picture image bank in her presentations to "spread the word"* and promotes the website at every opportunity.

inclusive classroom

The message Sue has given has gone out like ripples on a pond! The visual images, like the In The Picture ones included in her presentation, have given a powerful and lasting message to all teachers in Derbyshire. Those teachers have then incorporated the messages into their work with disabled and non-disabled children alike.

Sue has helped the teachers of Derbyshire put disabled children well and truly "in the picture"!
