What's The Story?

This illustration is one of a series by Lisa Savage illustrating one of the In The Picture stories - "Rory and Stella Save the Earth". The picture shows Rory using a communication book, he is pointing to the symbols for "lost" and "home" and is saying "how will we get home to earth - we're lost!"

This type of communication aid is often called "low tech" and consists of systems and techniques that can include symbols, signs, gestures and text. They are more often used by children with little or no speech - just because a child cannot talk it does not mean that they can't communicate.
