What's The Story?

This picture is based on a real scene. Natasha enjoys getting out with her friends and she and her family try not to let any sort of terrain get in her way! The framework she has around her is known as a Hart Walker and it has been made to measure.
The Hart Walker comes in two parts which are fitted together. The main frame is the wheelbase. The central part is removable, and in fact the child is fitted into this part of the framework, then lifted into the frame. This section consists of a rod which comes all the way down from the chest to the ankle, jointed at the hip and knee and it fixes into a boot which has a bit cut out of it specially. This rod slots into the main frame of the wheelbase.

All the joints work on an electric pulley system according to how much strength the child needs to move their legs and place their feet.

Natasha thinks this picture is "really cool" and if it was in a book she would buy it for everyone she knows!

See how Quentin Blake drew children using Hart walkers here.
