What's The Story? This photograph shows a baby who is fed by a nasogastric tube. Babies and children who are unable to eat or gain sufficient nutrition orally may be tube fed. There are two types of tube feeding - nasogastric tube feeding as seen here, or gastronomy tube feeding. You can see a photograph of a child having his lunch via a gastronomy tube here. A nasogastric tube is inserted into the child's stomach via their nose and fixed in place with surgical tape [as you can see clearly here]. When it is time for a meal the tube is connected to a bag of feed solution and it is then either pumped in or dripped in by gravity. Click here for more information about nasogastric tube feeding. |
