In The Picture held an evening reception and exhibition in London on 15 April - the event - "Picture this!" - celebrated the work of the project over the last two and a half years and was attended by Dame Jacqueline Wilson and Cherie Booth QC who both talked animatedly about why it is crucial for the literary world to recognise diversity. Click here to read Cherie Booth QC's speech and here to read Dame Jacqueline Wilson's speech.
The event showcased a unique exhibition of original artwork, created for the project, all of which demonstrated ways of including disabled children. You can see the artwork in the "images for inspiration" section of the In The Picture image bank.
Exhibition of artwork Children at the event enjoyed drawing with Winnie the Witch illustrator Korky Paul and were also included in a powerful DVD talking about books.
In The Picture searched for people who had "championed" the project and thanked them at the reception. Cherie Booth QC and well known children's author Dame Jacqueline Wilson presented the awards. For more information about individual champions and their contribution to the work of In The Picture click here.
In The Picture Champions Presentations A full transcript of the speeches will be available to download from this page soon - we also hope to have a podcast of a selection of guests at the reception talking to our sound recordist - watch this space! |
