Using In The Picture in your training

Below are some examples of the different areas that have started to use In The Picture resources and ideas in their training. They really highlight the need for books that include disabled children.

East of England

In the east of England In The Picture has been used during pre-school transition training with SENCOs and as part of inclusion training for managers and SENCOs. They then include it in an Embracing Diversity session to staff and as part of disability awareness with early years' practitioners and inclusion officers.

The Midlands

In the midlands in one county alone 500 schools have had the work of In The Picture highlighted as part of the Disability Equality Duty training and as part of their Inset training days.

Another local authority has linked the project to the Early Years Foundation Stage and "Supporting Children's Communication, Language and Literacy through diversity" and another has focused on the Disability Equality Duty training.

The Big Draw activities that took place in the midlands raised the disability equality profile in several schools.

Two illustrators have introduced the project via talks and art workshops to a variety people.

The South

In the south Right From the Start training has taken place in several areas and has included In The Picture as part of the content.

A special needs training day for teachers and teaching assistants has embraced In The Picture in one county.

The North

In the north one university's Early Childhood Studies BA students have had In The Picture input attached to their "Rights and Diversity" and "Competent Learner" units as well as Disability Equality Duty input at the university itself.

Big Draw activities raised the disability equality profile in several schools.

Scope [nationwide]

Scope includes aspects of In The Picture in its Children's Rights and Right From the Start training around the country. For more information about Scope's Early Years training visit the Scope early years' website.
